Apart from that, you would be required to show the institution that you have enough funds to support your dues and you don't really need to do a job for that purpose. You may also have to show your health insurance for covering medical expenses. After the university has examined your efforts and has come to the conclusion that your application is complete, you would be issued with a 1-20 form to apply for the student visa.

J-1 Visa for Secondary students

The J-1 visa is a visa which is based on studies of a person and for a specific period of time. It allows the students residing in abroad, and enrolled in secondary schools to study in the United States While living with their American Host family. Apart from their host family an option of boarding school is also there (only through accredited sponsoring organizations).

J1 Visa for University/College students

The visa will be granted for a limited period of time only. The maximum duration of a legal stay for the student is 2 years for a non-degree program. Under certain conditions, under J-1 university/college students, students can also participate in part-time employment. The employer will determine your good academicals standing at your institution.

USA F1 Visa

When you say F1 visa you are basically referring to a student visa of USA. The F1 visa is there for international students of USA. The visa is issued to the US students who are enrolled in an English language program or an academic program at a US University or college. 

M1 visa

The USA M1 visa is for the vocational or nonacademic studies. The M1 visa holders for vocational or technical programs are not permitted to work during the time of their studies. The M1 visa applicants are required to have the proof that they have sufficient funds which would quickly be made available to pay the tuition fees and living costs for the entire period of stay.
